ouch, that’s so dodgy. I guess that might do to get you home, but I wouldn’t ride on a tire that’s been split. To dangerous, especially if it’s your front tire.. You’re asking to be tossed. Tires are pretty cheap, and you’ll almost never have this happen. Just buy a new tire.

    excellent

I have also fixed electrical PVC tape on the inside of the tyre in several layers to further protect the innertube. On inflating to medium level, the bond has held quite well (allowing time to dry) and I have further added a bead of superglue to cover the seam and seal the split. It looks o.k and saves buying a new tyre. I wondered how a professional bike mechanic might carry out this type of repair where possible?

  • Tony07UK:

All these videos that are titled ‘fix bicycle tyres’ are all basic puncture repairs ie. innertube repairs. How about a video showing how to repair a minor split or cut in the tyre itself ~ cycling over glass or a stanley blade (as has happened to me) has not only punctured the innertube but has also split the tyre leaving a new innertube vulnerable to further punctures. I have since attempted a tyre repair by cleaning the split and bonding it with superglue recommended for rubber & plastics.

its not a glue. its some type of BONDING paste. it doesn`t glue it actually makes the patch ONE with the tube.

Rubber cement seems pretty weak as an adhesive, I think you should just go with a kit. I bought one earlier and it was only about 6 bucks.
